While at the University of North Texas, where she studied with James Lerch and
Igor Borodin, Alexandra served as concertmaster of the university orchestras.
At her graduation in 1996 she was named the Outstanding Undergraduate in Music.
She twice appeared as soloist with the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, and won the
Young Artist Competition of the Oklahoma City Symphony. In 1998 she completed the
M.M. at the University of Michigan, where she studied with Paul Kantor and served
as concertmaster of the symphony. For two summers she was awarded full fellowships
to perform in the Aspen and Tanglewood Festivals.
Following her graduation Alexandra won a violin position with the Columbus (Ohio)
Symphony, and a year later joined the 1st-violin section of the Houston Symphony.
She has also continued her interest in early music performance, and has been a regular
soloist with Early Music Southwest in Houston.
In the summer of 2000 she married trumpeter Steven Wenig, and the young couple
settled into a 1920's bungalow in the colorful old Houston Heights section of the
city. Here Steve's enthusiasm for woodworking has proved very useful in restoring
and decorating their home. Alexandra and Steve have also been kept busy with the
newest member of their family-Noah Benjamin, now a very active 18 months old.
